Can the IRS tell you love God?

In response to queries about tithing, if it's for today, or if it's necessary, here is my response to some of my friends. Thought this might help you today to:

****
A friend connected our tithing to our entire life to the Lord. In the New Testament, the pattern over and over again is to give of ourselves in that type of lifestyle. Isn't that to be our ultimate goal?

Some other interesting things about the tithe:

*The tithe was not under the law. It was before it. It's the connector between God's provisions and you
*The tithe is the ONLY place in Scripture that we are told we can challenge God in. Whew! That must make it important!
*In the N.T. when people came to the LORD, they didn't tithe. They, at minimum, gave 50% of what they had to the LORD. Many times, everything they had. How many modern day people do that really? I don't know anyone who gave or gives every penny they make over to the works of the Lord.

It's always curious to me that many people have a hard time with tithing. But if we are going to reflect a New Testament believer, we would be giving at minimum 50%, not 10%!

In the end, it's about understanding covenant relationship. We are in covenant with God, but He is also in covenant with us and upholds that covenant because He is faithful to Jesus.

Money is an amplifier. It reflects what we love and appreciate. So when we say we love God, can the I.R.S. tell from your giving???

Hmmmm
