It's Not About You so Break the Limitations
Scripture Reference: 2nd Samuel 9: 8-10 KJV
***Verse 8: And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
***Verse 9: Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
***Verse 10: Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
• Verse eight lesson: Open your eyes
It’s when we realize (have revelation; that “Aha!” moment) the magnitude of God’s kindness we often feel undeserving. We may even try to talk God out of it. Here, Mephibosheth compares himself to a dog. But don’t we do the same when God reveals how good He wants to be to you and you tell Him you are unworthy?
• Verse nine lesson: it’s not about you
I love the fact that David didn’t answer Mephibosheth’s question about being a dog. He simply proceeded by being kind to him. It was David’s covenant with Jonathan that moved David to be kind, not Mephibosheth himself. This is true about us. In spite of how you may feel about yourself, God’s will is to be kind to you. It’s not about you. It’s about being faithful because of what Jesus has done.
• Verse 10 lesson: Playing catch up
One thing about God we see here and in other parts of Scripture is that when it’s time for restoration, He will use every available resource to get you where you ought to be without toil. Help will come from the most unexpected places, whether it be you walking into the enemy’s camp and having all the resources left for you (II Kings 7) or going out to work and things just falling “in your lap” (Luke 5:4). All it takes is one word from the King for people or things to move, and everything changes!
