What are you known for?
Today's power verse comes from verse six (of Proverbs chapter 20): Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
Have you noticed how many commercials are playing during your favorite television show? Even the nightly news has been scaled down to nothing but sound bites. We have put perception over performance and wonder why things are happening in our society the way they are.
When we boost about ourselves, we sound like nothing but an empty commercial. Why bother taking about yourself when your character and can do it for you? What is the point of telling others of every good thing you've done? When you do that, your praises from men then become your reward and you nullify all the good seeds you have sown.
Sometimes people boost about themselves because they didn't get it as a child. So in a way, they are trying to give themselves something that they never had (approval). After awhile, what started out of fear of not being "good enough" goes off the road of humility and turns into the dead end of pride.
We need to decide what we want to be well known for. Do we want to be known as someone who is just full of ourselves, or do we want to leave a legacy that is worth remembering? Because in 20 years no one is going to remember the guy who talked a good game, but never actually played it.
