Loving Your Enemies
From the book The 1 Minute guide to health, wealth, and happiness: Wisdom from the book of Proverbs
November 25th page.....
For the best benefit, read the 25th chapter of Proverbs
Today’s power verse comes from verse 21: If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
Nothing matches the definition of love more than this verse. Love your enemies. Be kind to those who despitefully use you. This is the difference between the children of men and the children of God.
Anyone can be kind to someone who likes us back. We can even be kind to someone we find annoying. But to be kind to someone who is trying to do us harm in some way, this is a true test of who we are. It is not an easy task, but one nonetheless we are called to accomplish. We are well equipped to do so, for if it were not possible God would not ask it of us.
This wasn’t a new thing. Moses taught on this in Exodus 23 verses four and five. Jesus then reminded us in Matt. 5 verses 43-48. Jesus did not tell us anything new, for wisdom and righteousness do not change.
This does not modify authority or punishment. This isn’t speaking to governments, for they are to protect the people. This is talking about our day to day lives. Those in our immediate circle of influence. We will be held accountable for how we treat our personal enemies.
Love your enemy and show that the grace and mercy of God still is in operation today.
