Don't be caught off guard
Today’s power verse comes out from verse 33: Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
One reason that many people don’t make a plan is because it takes effort. It takes real effort in order for any real accomplishment. That is one thing that millionaires have in common: they make a plan and then work their plan.
I like the NLT version of this verse as well: A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.
Both versions give you the same idea: poverty (lack, want, not enough) will come upon you suddenly. That is what is so misleading about taking it easy and going with the flow of things. You don’t really know the results until it suddenly comes upon you. It’s the equivalent of you being all of sudden robbed!
Most times, what is happening to us (in a negative sense) can be traced back to being lazy in one form or another. Laziness about our bodies can make us sick. Laziness in our jobs can get us fired. Laziness about learning and understanding can get us doing the same thing over and over again without profit.
Don’t get caught off guard. Your future is worth your effort.

For a limited time, a few of the devotionals will be posted for your spiritual enrichment in this blog. These are taken from the one year devotional One Minute Guide to Health, Wealth, and Happiness: Wisdom from the book of Proverbs © 2007, Raquel Soto All rights reserved
How to read: Chapter of the day correspondences to the day of the month (October 24th read the 24th Chapter of Proverbs). There is one power verse in that chapter for the day. The power verse of the day is then turned into the day's guide.

Hi Raquel,
I always find your blogs to have value, and they are always clear to me.
I do believe that we should not be lazy, but I'm not one who believes that we must become wealthy in this world. I do believe that following God's Commandments and learning from His Wisdom will surely cause you to be Blessed, but will the end result always be wealth? I'm not sure (laugh).
Brian.

Thank you once again Raquel for your words of wisdom and instruction from the Father's word. I also believe that the Lord expects some effort on our part. Do what we can do and trust the rest to Him.
B-blessed;
Michael

I do believe that wealth is one of the things that God wants us to have (but not merely in money; money is the lowest form of wealth).
Wealth is needed to buy Bibles; send out missionaries; build schools; build places of worship debt free; all kinds of cool stuff!
God doesn't mind us being wealthy. His own streets are paved in gold! But He doesn't want the wealth to have us; He wants to be the source for every good and perfect thing.
We need to expect every good and perfect thing because that is God's desire for us. We should want to be healthy (wealth in the body) so that we can do what we are called to do. We should want to meet people (wealth socially) so that we can tell people about Jesus and be a blessing to those who are already are siblings. We should want to have more than enough financially so that when an opportunity comes (and they come at least weekly!) to be part of a good work, we can freely give.
It's all in our perspective. Do we want to be fiancially wealthy just because we want it? Or do we want it to fulfill the dreams in our heart placed by the Father?
It's all on how you look at it and what God is calling us to do on an individual basis.
Thanks for asking, Brian! I always love your comments!
And Michael, thanks for stopping by and leaving me some encouragement. You are a blessing to!
