Wisdom: Pass it On

Today’s power verse comes from verse 15: My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

A few days ago we were going over the importance of disciplining children. It’s not so much for their happiness now, but for their prosperous life later.

Here, in Proverbs, we see what makes a parent happy: a wise child. Why is that?

In the end we do want our children to be happy. It pains us when we see them hurting; when we see them struggling. It pains us when we know that if only they would have listened to us and followed our instructions, they would not be in the predicament they find themselves in.

Nothing gives a parent more joy than to know that their child is wise. Wisdom (applied knowledge and understanding) is the cornerstone to everything that child could possibly want. And if that child is wise, we can trust that s/he will make the right decisions when faced with even the most dire of situations.

If you have children, this is one area to help them to develop in. For at the end of the day, it is your heart that will rejoice when your child’s heart is filled with wisdom.

For a limited time, a few of the devotionals will be posted for your spiritual enrichment in this blog. These are taken from the one year devotional  One Minute Guide to Health, Wealth, and Happiness: Wisdom from the book of Proverbs © 2007, Raquel Soto All rights reserved

How to read: Chapter of the day correspondences to the day of the month (October 23rd read the 23rd Chapter of Proverbs). There is one power verse in that chapter for the day. The power verse of the day is then turned into the day's guide.
