When Someone Deceives You
Since speech is one of the main themes in Proverbs, once again we are warned about the smoothness of words. This time, instead of it coming out of a mouth of a strange woman, it’s coming out of the mouth of someone who is friendly to your face to deceive you!
If you have relationships long enough, at some point, someone will try to deceive you. It’s just the way it is. If someone deceived you in the past, someone else will try to deceive you in the future. I’m not speaking ill over you. It’s just life. If it weren’t, Proverbs wouldn’t continually warn you to look out for it.
People who believe that they will get away with something are sadly mistaken. Verse 25 goes on to tells us not to believe them because they are only pretending; their heart is filled with evil (anything not leading to the God kind of life).
Verse 26 gives us encouragement for when these people cross our paths. It goes on to tell us they can try to hide how they really feel, but eventually the destruction they are doing will be exposed. And it’s exposed in public.
It isn’t an issue of if, but when. So continue to be as wise as a serpent, but gentle as a lamb.

For a limited time, a few of the devotionals will be posted for your spiritual enrichment in this blog. These are taken from the upcoming one year devotional to be released October, 2007 One Minute Guide to Health, Wealth, and Happiness: Wisdom from the book of Proverbs © 2007, Raquel Soto All rights reserved
How to read: Chapter of the day correspondences to the day of the month (September 26th read the 26th Chapter of Proverbs). There is one power verse in that chapter for the day. The power verse of the day is then turned into the day's guide.

Great teaching! on this subject...I'm reminded by we will know some one by their fruits....

Hi Raquel,
Boy! I hear you here for sure!! Pertending to be caring is such a scary thing and takes discernment to mete it out. I am learning more and more how to be wise as a serpent and gentle as a lamb....I like the gentle as a lamb part!! (smile)
It really bothers me when one is able to deceive me into thinking that they care or are concerned about my well being and in actuallity they are just looking for maybe "dirt" to spread around somewhere where their "real friends" are.
me.
