When Someone Deceives You

Today’s power verse comes from verse 24: He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

Since speech is one of the main themes in Proverbs, once again we are warned about the smoothness of words. This time, instead of it coming out of a mouth of a strange woman, it’s coming out of the mouth of someone who is friendly to your face to deceive you!

If you have relationships long enough, at some point, someone will try to deceive you. It’s just the way it is. If someone deceived you in the past, someone else will try to deceive you in the future. I’m not speaking ill over you. It’s just life. If it weren’t, Proverbs wouldn’t continually warn you to look out for it.

People who believe that they will get away with something are sadly mistaken. Verse 25 goes on to tells us not to believe them because they are only pretending; their heart is filled with evil (anything not leading to the God kind of life).

Verse 26 gives us encouragement for when these people cross our paths. It goes on to tell us they can try to hide how they really feel, but eventually the destruction they are doing will be exposed. And it’s exposed in public.

It isn’t an issue of if, but when. So continue to be as wise as a serpent, but gentle as a lamb.
